How do you brand and market a new restaurant to stand out in a highly competitive industry?

OTIS Dining Hall

Canberra has more hospitality venues per capita than anywhere else in Australia. With more than 800 licensed venues in the market and another 50 new ones being approved each year, creating a venue that would make an impact was never going to be an easy task.

Executive Chef Damian Brabender approached Coordinate to partner with him in establishing his first venue. After a celebrated career working all around the world, Damian wanted to bring his vision to life in Canberra, offering fine dining food in a relaxed, unpretentious and inviting environment.

We saw this as a great opportunity to do something different by investing in Damian’s business—emotionally and financially.

This is OTIS.

Together, we chose the name OTIS—a simple and memorable name with no pre-determined narrative or over-concocted theme. In a restaurant world full of fads and complicated menus and dishes, we wanted to craft a sophisticated yet unpretentious and inviting restaurant built off a traditional and nostalgic menu.

The restaurant was an overnight success. Damian Brabender and his team created a stunning venue which received local and national accolades and attention including a ‘Chef’s Hat Award’ within the first three months and the Australian Good Food & Travel Guide Readers Choice 2017 for ‘Best New Restaurant’. Damian himself was also named one of FoodService’s Next Generation Top 50 Australian Chefs.
